This expansive preserve of 1,124 acres was created in 2006 by eight different land acquisitions surrounding the village of Virgil.
The Great Western Trail crosses the southern tip of this preserve.
Although the fields are currently in cultivation, management plans for the area include large-scale restoration of woodlands and prairies. Using maps from the 1830s, the District plans to recreate the meandering streams that were channelized during the height of agricultural development.
Future plans for the preserve include restrooms, shelters and picnic areas; parking, trail head signage, and multi-purpose and equestrian trails.
