School Programs / Field Trips
The Forest Preserve District offers a variety of hands-on, environmental education programs in which students explore and experience the natural wonders of Kane County. We offer two types of school programs: outdoor field trips within any of the Kane County forest preserves and traveling naturalist programs at your school or other location. Field trips are offered year-round. Traveling naturalist programs are typically done during the winter months and include an indoor presentation.
There is no charge for Kane County schools for either field trips or traveling naturalist programs. For out-of-county schools, there is a fee of $25 per class. Preschools are charged at the community group rate of $2 per child with a minimum of $20 per group.
Schools are also encouraged to visit the forest preserves as self-guided groups. We have “discovery packs” for loan, which are filled with fun, trail-side activities to complete during a hike. Self-guided groups must contact us to schedule a group program or field trip.
Registration for school programs begins the third Monday of August.
