Rules & Regulations
Below is an abbreviated list of rules and regulations for the forest preserves. For a complete list of rules and regulations, please view the Forest Preserve District of Kane County Use Ordinance.
Alcohol
No alcohol is allowed in the preserves. Alcohol may be sold by licensed vendors at the Events Center, Settlers Hill
Golf Course and Hughes Creek Golf Course.
Fires
Keep fires contained in the fireplaces, firerings, and grills. Discard or soak hot ashes before leaving.
Fishing
Fishing is allowed only in designated areas. Individuals must possess a proper Illinois State Fishing License.
Hunting
No hunting is allowed.
Motorized Vehicles
The use of motorized vehicles such as ATVs and dirt bikes is strictly prohibited. Snowmobiling is limited to the Forest
Preserves of Campton, Glenwood (on the Batavia Branch of the Illinois Prairie Path) Hampshire, Oakhurst and Rutland (on
the Great Western Trail west of Wasco) - ONLY (see
Winter Activities). All state and local regulations pertaining to
the operation of snowmobiles apply. There must be a minimum of 4" of snow and the ground must be frozen for
snowmobiling.
No Collecting
Permission of the President is required before removing any item from District lands. This is to protect all plant and
animal life.
Pets
Pets are welcome in the preserves, but must be leashed at all times. This protects pets, visitors and native plants and animals. The only exceptions to this rule are found in our three off-leash dog areas: Fox River Bluff Forest Preserve; Aurora West Forest Preserve; and Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve. Dog owners are asked to clean-up after their pooches to keep the areas clean for all users. See the Off-Leash Dog Areas section within Recreation, for more information.
Swimming
No swimming is permitted.
